XASECO Installation

Installing the dedicated server and XASECO needs to be done in that order, and has a handful of prerequisites. If you lack the computer knowledge to follow this, you can still try one of the everything-in-the-box packages, usbTMFserver / usbTMNserver for Windows or TMSiaB for Linux / Windows, that are available via the Resource Links.

Requirements

A server connected to the Internet with sufficient capacity (CPU/RAM/connection speed) for the number of players you'd like to host. Small servers can easily be hosted at home over a cable/DSL/fiber connection, big servers are probably better hosted in a data center. There are no clear metrics on number of players versus necessary server capacity, so experiment or ask in the Toolbox forum [@archive.org].

The latest TMF dedicated server or last TMN/TMS/TMO dedicated server [@archive.org], and the latest XASECO.

Technical set-up:
  • Linux (any distro) or Windows XP/2000/Vista/7
  • PHP 5.x
  • MySQL 4.x/5.x
XASECO has been tested on:
  • Linux (CentOS 4.x, SciLinux 6.1, Ubuntu 8.4 LTS) / Windows XP
  • PHP 5.2.x/5.3.x
  • MySQL 5.0.x/5.1.x

Dedicated server

The best approach to installing the dedicated server is to follow the minimum steps needed to get a basic server with default settings running, and once that works, tweak it to your liking. Those steps are described in the first half of these Quick Start Guides for TMF and classic TMN.

For more help, check out the many tutorials in the Resources Links. Tweaking the dedicated can be done via command line options and the dedicated server's configuration file, for which more information can be found among those same links.

XASECO

Similarly, the best approach to installing XASECO is to follow the minimum steps needed to get a basic XASECO with default settings running, and once that works, also tweak it to your liking. Those steps are described in the second half of the same Quick Start Guides for TMF and classic TMN.

For more help, take a look at some tutorials in the Resources Links. Tweaking XASECO can be done via the various configuration files, which will be described elsewhere in this documentation section.
